What MES Does
An MES bridges your ERP (business layer) and your shop floor (machine layer). It manages work orders, tracks what is being produced on which machine by which operator, records quality checks, and generates traceability records linking every finished product back to its raw materials and process parameters.
You Probably Need MES If...
You manufacture for pharma, medical devices, aerospace, or food & beverage — regulatory compliance requires batch records. You have customer recalls and cannot trace which machines processed which batches. Your ERP shows orders as complete before quality is verified.
You Probably Do NOT Need Full MES If...
You are a job shop making one-off custom parts with no repeat production. You have fewer than 3 production lines. Your industry has no traceability regulatory requirement. In these cases, a simpler production tracking tool will solve your problem at a fraction of the cost.
Build vs Buy
Commercial MES platforms are comprehensive but expensive. Custom MES development costs 30–50% of commercial solutions, fits your exact workflow, and can be expanded incrementally. We have built custom MES for automotive Tier-2 suppliers, pharma manufacturers, and electronics factories.
Start with the simplest traceability you actually need, not the most comprehensive system you could theoretically want. A focused custom solution beats a half-implemented commercial MES every time.
